I recently bought a 2007 ford focus.

The latching system is connected to the lock and handle.
So i opened the passenger door to compare the little latch that holds it open and it looked the same.

As for not being able to unlock you door.
Basicly after a cold night under 5 the door catch on the drivers side is refusing to catch.
Son just called me from college his 98 ford taurus drivers side door won t latch in really cold weather remember i m in michigan i told him to monkey with the mechanism as his sister s cavalier used to need the latch manually moved to shut sometimes.
If you door wont close or open you need to check the latch out and make sure its not just bent.
It will not engage and lock the door.
I m sure the grease inside just solidified or something.

My 2014 ford focus se back passenger door will shut but not lock the lock part.
Only after letting the car warm up for 15 minutes then both doors shut properly.
I can unlock and open the car fine but until the engine has warmed up the door won t catch when shut.

It kept popping open.
I can lean against the door and hold it shut and pree the remote lock on my key and the alarm sets and al the doors loc except this one you can walk up to the door and just open t.

The temperatures was only zero degrees celsius at most last night and the windscreen of the car was not frozen.
